11.15pm – After over 14 hours of counting, it seems incredible we still dont have the final picture in Scotland, as we await the final regional list votes being declared for the Highlands & Islands region.
But we do know the full picture on the 73 constituencies and its another landslide victory for the SNP – their fifth consecutive Scottish Parliament victory.

9.34pm – We’re nearing the final results now, with the Central Scotland region declaring the list of seats being returned to Holyrood as:
Reform x 3
Green x 1
Labour x 2
Conservatives x 1
This includes Scottish Greens co-convener, Gillian McKay.


9.27pm – The results of the West of Scotland regional list have been announced as:
Reform x 2
Green x 2
Labour x 2
Conservatives x 1
This result includes three party leaders – Malcolm Offord from Reform, Ross Greer of the Scottish Greens and Russell Findlay of the Conservatives all securing seats in Edinburgh.


8.58pm – The final constituency to be declared, Uddingston & Bellshill, which has taken 12 hours to count and declare, has been held by the SNP. Steven Bonnar takes the seat with a majority of 3,584 on a 49% turnout.

8.33pm – One of the final constituencies to declare, Skye Lochaber & Badenoch, has gone to the Lib Dems after they defeated the SNP there. The party secured a majority of 950 on a vote turnout of 57%.

8.24pm – The regional list votes for the Glasgow region are:
Reform x 2
Labour x 3
Greens x 2


8.18pm – The regional list votes in the South of Scotland have returned the following MSPs to Holyrood:
Reform x 3
Green x 1
Labour x 2
Lib Dems x 1

8.02pm – Inverness & Nairn is one of the final constituencies to declare in Scotland and has re-elected an SNP MSP in Emma Roddick with 11,162 votes. That’s a majority of just 427 against the Lib Dems, but the former incumbent, Fergus Ewing failed to garner enough support to win back the seat.

7.36pm – The list votes from the North East region have now been announced as:

Green x 1
Lib Dems x 1

7.31pm – The list votes for the Edinburgh & Lothians East region have now been announced as:
Green x 3
Labour x 2
Reform x 1
Conservatives x 1


7.27pm – Finally the first of the Regional List seats have been announced, using the D’Hont system from the peach ballot paper for Mid Scotland & Fife. These have been allocated as:
Reform x 2
Conservatives x 2
Labour x 2
Green x 1

As we reach the final stages of the counting across the UK, here’s the situation in England and Wales, where Labour have slumped and Reform have surged.
In Englad, Labour have lost more than 1,000 council or mayoral seats, with Reform picking up almost 1,200. The Greens have also done well, increasing their numbers by 269. The Tories have lost more than 450 seats nationwide.
In Wales, Labour have slumped with the former First Minister Elunad Morgan losing her seat and they’re currenly on just 9 seats after previously controlling the Welsh Government since devolution in 1999. Plaid Cymru and Reform have both made gains, with Plaid now at 43 seats and Reform on 34.
It does feel like the time of the two-party system in England and Wales is coming to an end, with both the Conservatives and Labour slumping further in the vote, meanwhile the Greens and Reform surge.
6.50pm – Caithness & Sutherland is the first of the Highland constituencies to be declared, with the Lib Dems gaining the seat from SNP. David Green returned 14,666 votes and now has a majority of 5,042 and ousts Maree Todd, a former drugs minister in the Scottish Government. The vote share increased 12% for the Lib Dems and dropped by the same amount for the SNP.

5.58pm – Dame Jackie Baillie, the Labour stalwart and Deputy Leader in Scotland, has retained her seat in Dumbarton. Labour have held the seat with a majority of 1,786 on a turnout of 57%. She has held the seat for 27 years.

5.30pm – Scottish Lib Dem leader Alex Cole-Hamilton has held his seat in Edinburgh North Western, taking a massive 57% of the vote share and 22,959 votes, increasing his share of the vote by more than 8%. Labour were pushed into fourth place with just 4% of the votes.

5.24pm – The Lib Dems have gained Strathkelvin & Bearsden from the SNP in another shock result. Adam Harley will become the new MSP with a majority of 2,572 on a turnout of 63% there. The Lib Dem vote share increased by a whopping 25% since 2021.

5.19pm – The Argyll & Bute seat has been held by the SNP, as Jenni Minto is returned to Holyrood with a majority of 2,551. The turnout was 55%. The SNP vote share was again down by nearly 10% in the constituency vote.

5.12pm – The SNP have held the Angus South and Midlothian South constituencies with the majority of the Central Belt seats at a local level now declared.

5pm – 63 of 73 constituency seats have now been declared, so here’s the current breakdown:
SNP: 51 (-3)
Lib Dems: 4
Conservatives: 4 (-1)
Labour: 2 (-2)
Green: 2 (+2)
Reform: 0
4.50pm – The Scottish Greens have won their second constituency seat, this time in Glasgow Southside from the SNP. In a shock defeat, the SNP received 10,947 votes, 3,000 short of the Greens 14,048. Turnout was 59%.

The position across the UK is also showing its been a bad day at the office for Labour, losing most of their seats in the Welsh Senedd and hundreds of council seats in England.
In Wales, Plaid Cymru now have 24 seats, Reform are on 19, Labour 6, Conservatives 4 and Greens 1. Plaid are now predicted to be the largest party and could take control of the Welsh Assembly for the first time.
In the English councils and mayoral elections, Reform have gained 799 seats, Greens are up 144 and Lib Dems have gained 58. Labour so far have the heaviest losses, with 615 councillors lost and the Conservatives losing 370 so far.
4.36pm – Alison Thewliss, former SNP MP, has won the Glasgow Central seat with one of the biggest majorities in the country. She secured 57% of the vote share and a majority of nearly 10,000 votes over Labour.

4.04pm – The much anticipated Edinburgh Central seat has been won by the Scottish Greens – their first constituency win at this election and a historic win for the party. Former party co-convener, Lorna Slater kicks out the imcumbent former minister, Angus Robertson, with a majority of over 4,000. The Greens had 36% vote share, up nearly 30% on 2021.
The SNP were pushed into third place with 7702 votes and Labour were second with 8098.

4pm – With more than half of all constituency seats declared and nearly a third of the total MSPs now known, the state of the parties are:
SNP – 36 (-1)
Lib Dem – 2
Labour – 2 (+2)
Conservatives – 2 (-1)
Reform – 0
Green – 0
The Regional votes and winning seats will be declared once we know all the constituency results in their respective regions, likely around 5.30pm.
3.56pm – The final Fife seat has been held by the SNP. Kirkcaldy has been declared with David Torrance returning to Holyrood and a majority of 4,747. The turnout was 45%.
Labour’s Clare Baker was in second place with 26% vote share and Reform came a close third with 19% share.

3.50pm – Labour have gained Edinburgh Southern from the SNP. Deidre Brock was beaten into second place and Daniel Johnson taking 43% of the vote share and a majority of 4,963.

3.48pm – Willie Rennie sees off the challenger in Fife North East to retain his seat for the Lib Dems.

3.47pm – The SNP have held Almond Valley, Cunninghame North, Glasgow Baillieston & Shettleston constituencies.

3.40pm – Reform leader in Scotland has failed in his bid for a constituency seat in Inverclyde, coming third in the vote with 17% of the vote share.
3.38pm – Lib Dems have gained their first constituency seat from the SNP, winning Edinburgh Northern with 34% against the SNP’s 27%. The was a 16% swing from SNP to Lib Dems.

3.36pm – SNP hold Ayr, East Lothian Coast, Motherwell & Wishaw constituencies.

3.32pm – Stirling has been held by the SNP, with former MP Alyn Smith heading to the Scottish Parliament with a majority of 7,442.

3.28pm – Mid Fife & Glenrothes has been held by the SNP’s Jenny Gilruth. The previous Education Secretary safely secured her seat, winning a majority of 7,634 and a 48% vote share, one of the largest declared so far.
Reform surged to second place though, taking 18% of the vote share, beating Labour into third place on a turnout of 46%.

3.22pm – The first of the Glasgow city seats has been declared, with Glasgow Easterhouse returning Ivan McKee to Holyrood, securing a majority of 5,154. He beats prominent Labour candidate, Paul Sweeney. Turnout was just 43%.

3.20pm – In Aberdeenshire East, the SNP have held their seat with Gillian Martin narrowly retaining her seat with a majority of 1,003.

3.17pm – Craig Hoy is returned to the Scottish Parliament representing the Conservatives in Dumfriesshire. He beat the SNP into second position with a majority of 1,108. The turnout was 52%.

3.15pm – SNP hold Moray seat, Laura Mitchell heads to Holyrood but again with a reduced vote share for the party, down 10%.

3.08pm – SNP have gained Eastwood from the Conservatives, ousting prominent Tory Jackson Carlaw with a majority of just 730 votes.
Former SNP MP Kirsten Oswald will head to Holyrood with 33% of the vote share in the constituency.

We’re a couple of hours into declarations now but a long way to go, here’s the state of the parties across Scotland so far:
SNP – 17 (+1)
Lib Dem – 1 (-1)
Labour – 1 (+1)
Conservatives – 1 (-1)
3.07pm – The second Fife seat declared is Dunfermline, which has been held by the SNP. Former cabinet secretary Shirley-Anne Somerville retains her seat, with 41% of the vote.

3.04pm – The Scottish Conservatives have won their first constituency seat of the election, holding the Galloway & West Dumfries seat with a majority of just over 1,500 and beating the SNP into second place.

2.54pm – The SNP have held the Cowdenbeath constituency, with David Barratt heading for the Scottish Parliament with 44% of the vote.
He beat Fiona Sword for Labour into second place with a whopping majority of 5,687.
Mark Davies of Reform came third with 4708 votes. Darren Watt came fourth for the Conservatives with 2201, James Calder fifth at 1547 and Laurie Moffat sixth with 304 votes.
Vote share in Cowdenbeath was mixed, with SNP dropping 4%, Labour dropping 7% and the Tories dropping 6%. Lib Dems gained 3% but Reform surged to 17% share of the vote in Cowdenbeath.
The turnout was 47%, down by 13% on 2021.

2.52pm – Labour has gained its first constituency seat, and its first in the Holyrood election so far today, with the Western Isles voting in Donald MacKinnon. He has the smallest majority of just 154 votes over the SNP. Turnout was 56%.

2.43pm – Paisley has been held by the SNP with George Adam returned to the Scottish Parliament.
In Edinburgh South Western, the SNP have also held the seat, with newcomer Simita Kumar being elected with a majority over Labour of 3,289. The turnout was 53%.
They have also secured Midlothian North, with Colin Beattie reelected to Holyrood with a majority over 2,000.

2.29pm – In the closest result so far, Banffshire & Buchan Coast has been held by the SNP’s Karen Adam against Reform, but with a majority of just 364 votes. Turnout was 48%. The SNP’s vote share was again down by 10%.

2.31pm – Edinburgh East & Musselburgh has also been retained by the SNP with 14,083 votes and Kate Campbell elected to the Scottish Parliament. Turnout was 52%.

2.28pm – SNP have held the Perthshire South & Kinross-shire seat, with Jim Fairlie reelected to Holyrood.

2.23pm – Stephen Flynn, the SNP’s Westminster leader, has now been successful in his bid to move to Holyrood, winning the Aberdeen Deeside and Kincardine seat. Turnout was 55% and the majority for the SNP over second place Conservatives, is 1,244 votes.

2.15pm – John Swinney has been returned as the MSP for Perthshire North but with a reduced majority of 6,243. The turnout was 58%. The SNP vote share was down 4%.

2pm – In an extraordinary interview live at the Glasgow count centre, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar has conceded Labour have not done enough to beat the SNP in this election, with just 7 seats of 122 declared!
A downbeat Sarwar said it was clear that the party had suffered as a result of a national “wave” of dissatisfaction with the Labour party.

With just some early Scottish results coming in, the story so far has been the surge of Reform pushing Labour and the Conservatives out, but also a reduced vote share for the SNP. Even in seats where they have won, vote share is so far down over 10%.
Elsewhere, in the English Council elections, with over 2,500 councillor seats up for grabs, Reform are doing very well, taking an additional 555 seats so far, taking those from both Labour and the Conservatives.
1.52pm – Carrick, Cumnock & Doon Valley has now declared for the SNP, where they hold on to the seat but with a reduced majority. The turnout was 49%. Reform surged to second place in the constituency, taking 6,988 and 24% of the vote share.

1.36pm – Dundee City East has been held by the SNP, with the former MP Stephen Gethins being declared the new MSP for the constituency. He has a majority of more than 8,000 ahead of Labour. Turnout was 47%. Stephen replaces former SNP Finance Secretary, Shona Robison who stood down at this election. Vote share for the SNP and Conservatives was both down 10%, with Reform gaining 16%.

1.22pm – Kilmarnock & Irvine Valley has been retained by the SNP, with Alan Brown being returned to Holyrood, previously an MP for the area. Turnout was 50%.

1.18pm – Shetland constituency has been declared for SNP with Hannah Goodlad becoming the first independence MSP for the islands. The seat had previously been a Lib Dem stronghold for the past 26 years. This is the first SNP seat gained in this election and this first to change hands so far in Scotland today.

1.17pm – Aberdeen Central declared for SNP. Jack Middleton, a newcomer to parliament, has held the seat for the SNP with very little change in the vote share, holding at 44%. A Reform surge has pushed the Conservatives to 4th place here.

1.10pm – Fife Council have confirmed the turnout in each of the local seats here in Fife.
- Cowdenbeath 47.4%
- Dunfermline 53.4%
- Fife North East 58.6%
- Kirkcaldy 45.9%
- Mid Fife & Glenrothes 46.6%

1pm – The second result today was declared in Dundee City West, where the SNP held the seat but with a lower vote share. Heather Anderson is new to Parliament, taking the seat with a majority of over 6,000, but the SNP vote share was down again by over 12%.

1pm – The first result was declared around 12.30pm from Orkney, where the Lib Dems retained their seat with Liam McArthur being re-elected with 70% of the vote share, up 7% on 2021. Turnout was 57% but that’s down nearly 8% on 2021.

We expect results for Fife seats to be declared around 3pm.
