Those who gave the ultimate sacrifice for their country will be honoured in special Remembrance events and a colourful display around Cowdenbeath this year.
Thanks to the efforts of the community council and a small group of volunteers led by Alex Haddow, the town will remember its fallen heroes with services on Sunday 9th November.

A new addition to the commemorations this year will be the creation of a display at the Green Square in the town centre, marking the contribution of our forces. The display will be open from 1st to 11th November.
354 wooden crosses will be installed in the Square, marking one for each of Cowdenbeath’s named servicemen killed in duty, their names etched forever on our war memorials.
The gateways around Cowdenbeath will also feature prominent poppy displays, at Bridge Street, at Woodend, the Millennium Garden and at the Public Park on Foulford Road.
Local young people at the CACA youth club have also been giving a helping hand, reusing old plastic bottles to create a unique poppy display for the town too.
A poppy projection will also beam onto the Town House in the first week of November, lighting up the site as a small act of remembrance.

Supporting local people to show their respect, poppy sales have already started in stores around town, but there will also be special poppy stalls with merchandise for sale at Aldi, Lidl and Morrisons, as well as during the opening of the Remembrance Garden at the Green Square on 1st November. Hundreds of crocheted poppies produced by local residents will also be available for sale.
A bucket collection and special poppy display during Cowdenbeath FC’s home game on Saturday 1st November will also ensure everyone has the chance to remember those lost in service.
Several local organisations and businesses have helped contribute funds for the Remembrance displays and events this year in Cowdenbeath, in the hope of raising more money for the Poppy Appeal to beat the 2024 total of £5,100.
Cowdenbeath’s main services on Remembrance Sunday (9th Nov) will be held at 1.30pm at the WW1 memorial and 2.30pm at the Town House after a short parade from the former Library. Diversions will be in place due to the High Street being closed between Stenhouse St and Foulford Road during the Town House ceremony.
Volunteers are being sought to help set-up the displays and the stalls on 31st October and 1st, 7th & 8th November. Anyone with an hour or two available on any of these dates is asked to get in touch with Alex Haddow here.
