Cowdenbeath’s Farmfoods store will close on Sunday 14th September, leaving one of the town’s largest retail spaces vacant.

The frozen food store confirmed the closure in a statement released this week. A spokesperson said:

“Our Cowdenbeath shop will permanently close on Sunday following a 50% off clearance sale. No other shops are affected.

“We’re grateful to all customers who have shopped with us in the town over our many years of trading.

“Our nearest shops following the closure will be Unit 6, Carnegie Drive Retail Park, Dunfermline and 147-151 St Clair Street, Kirkcaldy.”

The store has been a fixture of the High Street for more than 16 years and the closure comes following similar moves when the shutters rolled down on stores in Glasgow and Dundee earlier in the year. Farmfoods has around 300 stores nationwide.

Shoppers are invited to grab a bargain in the final days of the store opening, with 50% off many items to help clear stock from the unit.

Speaking outside the store today, local resident Tracy said “I’m gutted as it’s a great store with lots of bargains. I always get the majority of my frozen stuff from Farmfoods but dont think I’ll be going to Kirkcaldy or Dunfermline stores, I’ll just need to change to maybe Aldi or Lidl.”

Craig and Laura, from Stenhouse Street, told us, “We’ve been shopping in Farmfoods since we moved here in 2015 and we always liked the range of products and the prices, which were always good value too. It’s a real shame the town is losing such a big retailer, and another freezer shop after Iceland closed a few years ago too.”
